Quality Lead
Location: Vemegal / Jagiroad
Role Summary
We are seeking a dynamic Quality Leader to head the Quality function for Surface Mount Technology (SMT) and Top Layer Assembly (TLA) operations. This role is responsible for defining and driving the quality strategy, building and leading high‑performance quality teams for TSAT startup plants, and ensuring robust built‑in quality execution. The position plays a critical role in safeguarding customer and company interests, prioritizing quality over schedule pressure, and fostering a strong zero‑defect culture.
Key Responsibilities
Quality Strategy & Leadership
- Define and execute the quality strategy with a strong focus on built‑in quality principles.
- Drive key quality KPIs including first‑pass yield, defect rates, and customer satisfaction.
- Build, mentor, and lead CQE, IQC, IPQC, and OQC teams, including performance management, skill development, and succession planning.
End‑to‑End Quality Ownership
- Own and execute customer quality requirements related to form, fit, and function.
- Lead NPI quality planning, product qualification, and quality gate adherence during ramp‑up to mass production.
- Oversee Incoming, In‑Process, and Outgoing Quality (IQC, IPQC, OQC) and manage customer complaints and escalations.
Cultural Transformation & Change Leadership
- Drive a strong quality culture across SMT and TLA operations through accountability, continuous improvement, and a zero‑defect mindset.
- Act as a change agent by promoting proactive risk identification and data‑driven decision making.
NPI & Advanced Quality Planning
- Lead APQP phase‑gate reviews across NPI programs.
- Ensure robust execution of PPAP, PFMEA, DFMEA, Control Plans, MSA, and SPC.
- Support real‑time process monitoring and early risk mitigation.
Quality Tools & Problem Solving
- Lead structured problem‑solving using 8D, SPC, MRB, deviation management, and CAPA.
- Drive root cause analysis using scientific methods such as Fishbone, 5‑Why, and DOE in partnership with Engineering and Operations teams.
Process & Technical Expertise
- Provide hands‑on quality leadership across SMT and TLA processes including:
- PCB laser marking
- Solder paste printing and stencil management
- Error‑proofing of manual processes
- SPI, vacuum reflow soldering
- AOI / AXI inspection and ICT testing
- Thermal interface materials management
- Screw fastening and automated cable insertion
- Ensure compliance to IPC standards (IPC‑A‑610, J‑STD‑001) for high‑reliability products.
Compliance & Certification
- Maintain and lead certification compliance for AS9100, IATF 16949, ISO 9001, and ESD ANSI/ESD S20.20.
- Lead internal, external, and supplier audits, including recertification activities.
Cross‑Functional Collaboration & Data Analytics
- Collaborate closely with Engineering and Operations to resolve conflicts between quality and delivery priorities.
- Analyze process and quality data using SPC and other analytical tools to drive sustainable improvements.

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering (Materials, Mechanical, Metallurgy, Electronics, or related discipline).
- Advanced quality certifications (e.g., Six Sigma Black Belt, ASQ CQE) preferred.
Experience
- 15+ years of quality leadership experience in SMT / PCBA manufacturing environments.
- Proven expertise across NPI, mass production quality (IQC, IPQC, OQC), and customer complaint management.
- Deep technical knowledge of SMT and TLA processes and built‑in quality execution.
- Strong mastery of quality systems and tools including APQP, PPAP, FMEA, SPC, MRB, and configuration/change management.
- Hands‑on audit leadership experience for AS9100, IATF 16949, ISO 9001, and ESD standards.
- Excellent stakeholder management, communication, and team‑building skills in high‑volume manufacturing environments.
