Purpose

The Shift Leader - CNC Machining is responsible for the hands-on manufacturing of precision mould and fixture components using VMC machines. The role ensures achievement of quality, productivity, cost, and delivery targets while maximizing machine utilization and supporting continuous improvement initiatives

Key Responsibility

CNC Machining Operations

  • Operate and manage 3-axis and 5-axis VMC machines with FANUC, Siemens, and Heidenhain controls.
  • Ensure productivity, quality, cost, and delivery targets are achieved.
  • Train operators on CNC programming, machine functions, macros, and command instructions.
  • Perform machine setup, tool offset setting, and work coordinate configuration.
  • Interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, and technical specifications.
  • Optimize machining processes, tooling selection, cutting parameters, and cycle times.
  • Guide CAM programmers for effective machining strategies.
  • Monitor machine loading, utilization, and machine availability

Production Monitoring & Quality Control

  • Supervise operators and support inspection of finished components.
  • Ensure production and quality logs are accurately maintained.
  • Monitor utilization, First Time Through (FTT), rejection, and rework metrics.
  • Maintain CNC programs, tooling sheets, and setup documentation revisions.
  • Escalate equipment calibration requirements when required.
  • Drive actions to improve process capability and quality performance.

Stakeholder Coordination

  • Coordinate with Process Planning, CAM Programming, Quality, Assembly, and Production teams.
  • Conduct Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for machining defects, rework, and rejection cases.
  • Issue and monitor job cards and routing sheets for traceability.
  • Provide production timelines based on capacity and resource availability.
  • Resolve machining and assembly-related issues through cross-functional collaboration.
  • Support continuous improvement, productivity enhancement, and cost-reduction projects.
  • Ensure adherence to safety, quality, and operational standards.

Safety, Quality & Continuous Improvement

  • Ensure strict compliance with safety procedures and PPE requirements.
  • Drive and sustain 5S practices across the machining area.
  • Ensure adherence to ISO and company quality standards.
  • Promote Kaizen implementation and team participation in continuous improvement activities.

Qualification

 

  • Diploma in Mechanical Engineering / Production Engineering
  • NTTF / CITD or equivalent technical qualification preferred.

Experience

  • 10 to 15 years of experience in CNC VMC machining operations.
  • Experience in mold and fixture elements manufacturing.
  • Exposure to production supervision and manpower management
